Sizing is a headache. Period.

That is what many fashion buyers have in mind when addressing the “What size should i pick?” challenge, specially when buying online.

But where does this sizing craziness come from? How big the issue is? What is being done to address it?

Let’s put some light to it!

The Historical Context of Sizing

Whether you imaged or not, sizing systems were developed based on a limited set of body measurements, primarily derived from military personnel or a small subset of the population.

This approach led to the creation of standardized sizing, which, while useful for mass production, fails to accommodate the vast diversity of human body shapes and sizes.

The one-size-fits-all mentality, deeply ingrained in the industry’s roots, overlooks the nuanced variations in human anatomy. We needed to put +7 Billion inhabitants into a small set of (4? 6?) sizes. Come on, does not sound accurate.
